Stoked about Edmonton Course!
See details ...
Having to be
resourceful for this short five day class is already magic in itself, but Heidy
managed to relate to us individually allowing me to first hand apply what was
being taught. We learned not so much about what to teach, but rather how to
teach, either children, adults, or the other of the many specialized groups -Wadel Spark Nov. 29/'09 Edmonton, AB |
The 'Hawaii of Korea'
See details ...
Korea is awesome! I absolutely love it here. I'm teaching English as a second language with the public school system going into my second year with the government. My first year (2006/7) was in a private institute but still a great experience. I'm located on an island south of the mainland peninsula called Jeju Island. It's described as the 'Hawaii of Korea'. I live minutes from waterfalls, surfing beaches, swimming holes, scuba diving locations, snorkeling soft coral reefs, and innumerable hiking trails. It's amazing here. Korea has such a fascinating culture and the food is like no where else in the world. I teach at 3 different country schools and am set up in a sweet apartment here on the island. The salary is fantastic and I'm able to save heaps and travel most of Asia in the last 2 years on summer and winter vacation. Mongolia, North Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore are all short flights away.

Success Right Off The Bat!
See details ...
As I write it's 19 days since our Calgary class of August 17, 2008
graduated and I'm waiting for the official letter of invitation from a college
in Nantong (just outside Shanghai) that will enable me to apply for my working
visa. According to the current schedule I'll have the visa by September 12 and
be on the ground in Shanghai by about Sept. 16th.
After sleeping for much of August 18th, I sat down with the Employment
Handbook and began putting my information package together into a PDF file
including a letter of introduction, my C.V., three letters of reference
and a statement of teaching philosophy. A photograph taken on my cell phone was
uploaded to gmail and into the PDF. The reference letters took the longest...
about 10 days by the time I contacted everyone and a couple of drafts went back
and forth and they were signed and scanned into PDF's. Somewhere in there I
also scanned my passport info.
On Saturday the 23rd (before the info package was ready) I set up a new
e-mail account (TESOL.EFL.teacher@gmail.com), wrote a short blurb on myself
plus where I wanted to teach and I posted it all on the Dave's Cafe website.
When I checked on Monday morning, I had more than 30 e-mail hits. Even after
taking out the recruiting companies and free website listing offers there
were 14 expressions of interest from actual schools. I was surprised to see
that in several cases they included copies of their contracts and many also
included pictures of the school, accommodations and locality. Since I haven't
completed my university degree I discounted 6 more which required
degrees. Four were either way too little money or from areas in which I
wasn't interested. When the dust cleared I had four interesting school
contacts who had expressed interest in my services. For someone with no
university degree or teaching experience other than the TESOL Foundation Course
this struck me as fairly amazing.
Without having my reference letters ready I opened up dialogues to get more
information. I made up a negotiation checklist to use during phone calls--and
each day a rough average of 5 new e-mail hits came in. I re-posted on Dave's
Cafe with a slightly adjusted blurb and also posted on one other free website.
I was now in detailed discussions with schools in Dongying, Changchun and
Guangdong. Then on Aug. 29, the day the full PDF package was ready to go, I got
a hit from a great school in Nantong that, based on my experience talking to the
other schools, I instantly knew was the one.
None of it could have happened without a great teacher and a great course.
Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes...
Warm regards,

Dear Jim, I would like to take the time to thank you for helping me choose Global TESOL as my English credential provider. As I mentioned on the phone, I am impressed and satisifed with the image that Global TESOL both presents and substantiates. Between the brochure and our conversations, I am fully confident of my choice to pursue the 120-hour Advanced Certificate. Thank you for your personal and individualized attention to my inquiries. You pro-actively sought to contact me and provide me with the releveant information necessary for me to make a decision. In this way, you have represented your company well. I hope your colleagues are also this professional. I will keep you apprised of my progress. Let me know when you arrive in Korea. Sincerely, |
An Incredible Experience
See details ...
I took the Global TESOL course in Calgary in late September, 2007, and it was a truly amazing experience. Our
instructor, Sarah, was very professional and engaging, and not only did I learn a lot about the foundations of
teaching, but Sarah's experience and wisdom took the course to a great new level. I suggest that anyone
interested in teaching in another country should take this program. It was a truly inspiring experience that gave me the confidence I need to pursue this new career. Sincerely, Douglas.

Global TESOL grad in South Korea
See details ...
Hi Everyone,
My name is Bharati Belmore. I am a Global TESOl graduate. I graduated from the program back in October. I was fortunate to have both Andrea and Christina as my instructors. They are both wonderful and excellent instructors. Very helpful and let you experience the real life of teaching overseas. I am right now teaching in South Korea in one of the rural areas. For the most part I am enjoying the experience. I arrived in late February and will be here till March of next year. I love teaching the children so far, I have grades 1-10. The weekends are a little boring right now as I am in the rural areas, but I am hoping to soon meet other ESL teachers in the area and do some site seeing. Thanks Andrea and Christina for all of your help.
Bharati.

Hello,
I just wanted to say that I'm so glad I took this course! It was fun and at the same time very informative. Andrea was an excellent teacher, and I'm glad that we learned about some of the important things involved in the teaching process. Taking this course has made me feel much more at ease with the whole teaching abroad process, as everyone is so helpful. It makes me feel as though I'm not alone and that people really care about helping me. Thanks for providing such an opportunity for so many people out there.

A grad's thoughts!

Hi there - Thanks for the update! If I can offer a short note, here it is
Anyone interested in teaching overseas should know that any instruction
they can get will be beneficial, and a course from Global TESOL College is a
great start. I received really helpful advice which proved vital in helping
me get started and prepare for teaching in South Korea. It is much easier
to learn ahead of time than try to learn while in the classroom! I
will be sure to visit your new website. Thanks!

Happy Vancouver Grad!

Thanks Georgia! I have been doing a lot of thinking about teaching ESL since yesterday, and I am really leaning towards finishing off my contract at the end of November, and looking for an ESL job starting in January. Now I just have to figure out which country I want to go to! I was having a look through the Employment Handbook last night while I was waiting for the ferry, and it is chocked full of useful information. I have been so impressed with my whole Global Tesol experience, from the information session I had over the phone, to the course itself, the materials provided, and the assistance in finding a job. Thanks again for making the course so interesting and so much fun!
