               Going into TESOL College I did not know what to expect. I didn’t really know too much about the whole “Teaching English Overseas” thing, but that was soon to change. Being taught in Edmonton by Heidy really brought to life the pleasurable aspects of learning and learning how to teach. The class itself had a vast range of young and old students that brought experiences from all blocks of life. These perspectives especially showed through when we were presenting our last project in lesson planning. Not only did I have lots of laughs and loved learning about my classmates and speculating where their journeys will take them (or Heidy and her crazy stories of hanging out with Taiwanese pop-stars during her stay in Taiwan), the lesson itself brought a whole new meaning of teaching to me. During the in-class program, as a group we went though material at a level we could all cope with, allowing us to have a good understanding of what was being taught. Keeping in mind the course was for only five days, I now reflect back thinking, “Holy smokes! We covered a lot! How do I remember this stuff?” My class was always filled with positive vibes and lots of energy which would factor into why; I could probably speak for everyone, we focused our full attention on Heidy.

Having to be resourceful for this short five day class is already magic in itself, but Heidy managed to relate to us individually allowing me to first hand apply what was being taught. We learned not so much about what to teach, but rather how to teach, either children, adults, or the other of the many specialized groups Global TESOL College has to offer. The type of teaching methods that I have learned during the period of this course have helped me to find common ways when I am overseas to relate to my students, just as Heidy did with me. Warm-ups, energizers, teaching philosophy, approach, methods and technique are only a selection of what I’ve learned at Global TESOL College, which will help me as an ESL teacher overseas no matter what type of group I will be teaching. This class not only helped me to recognize and use different teaching methods but also it highlighted questions such as, how good of a listener am I? What type of my personal traits shape how I learn and see the world? Knowing these simple factors, have not only improved the way I teach, but I think it has improved all of my relationships by developing a clear understanding of priorities and communication strategies. In this case, thanks to the Foundation Course, I have confidence knowing how to control a class when I start teaching students English in some majestic land! Thanks Heidy & Global TESOL College!

Korea is awesome!  I absolutely love it here.  I'm teaching English as a second language with the public school system going into my second year with the government.  My first year (2006/7) was in a private institute but still a great experience.  I'm located on an island south of the mainland peninsula called Jeju Island.  It's described as the 'Hawaii of Korea'.  I live minutes from waterfalls, surfing beaches, swimming holes, scuba diving locations, snorkeling soft coral reefs, and innumerable hiking trails.  It's amazing here.  Korea has such a fascinating culture and the food is like no where else in the world.  I teach at 3 different country schools and am set up in a sweet apartment here on the island.  The salary is fantastic and I'm able to save heaps and travel most of Asia in the last 2 years on summer and winter vacation.  Mongolia, North Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore are all short flights away.

My husband, Davar, and I are both graduates of Global TESOL College and have certainly benefited from the education.  It has qualified us for higher salaries and for employment with credible organizations like city hall and our current university job.  We love teaching overseas, living an adventurous lifestyle and meeting great people while being able to save for our future.

I took the Global TESOL course in Calgary in late September, 2007, and it was a truly amazing experience. Our instructor, Sarah, was very professional and engaging, and not only did I learn a lot about the foundations of teaching, but Sarah's experience and wisdom took the course to a great new level. Hi Everyone, My name is Bharati Belmore. I am a Global TESOl graduate. I graduated from the program back in October. I was fortunate to have both Andrea and Christina as my instructors. They are both wonderful and excellent instructors. Very helpful and let you experience the real life of teaching overseas. I am right now teaching in South Korea in one of the rural areas. For the most part I am enjoying the experience. I arrived in late February and will be here till March of next year. I love teaching the children so far, I have grades 1-10. The weekends are a little boring right now as I am in the rural areas, but I am hoping to soon meet other ESL teachers in the area and do some site seeing. Thanks Georgia! I have been doing a lot of thinking about teaching ESL since yesterday, and I am really leaning towards finishing off my contract at the end of November, and looking for an ESL job starting in January. Now I just have to figure out which country I want to go to! I was having a look through the Employment Handbook last night while I was waiting for the ferry, and it is chocked full of useful information. I have been so impressed with my whole Global Tesol experience, from the information session I had over the phone, to the course itself, the materials provided, and the assistance in finding a job.
