Hi Kiran, thanks for replying to me. Yeah it has been really frustrating. I originally wanted to teach in Taiwan or China but when I tried applying through companies I didnt meet the minimun requirement (bachelors degree) for the to consider me for their positions. I have been trying for over trying for two years now. I had decided to go back to school since I wasnt getting anywhere with TESOL. I am going to try again though. hoping to find something for May 2012, since that is when I will be finishing up my second diploma. My best friend lives in Taiwan, she is originally from there but like you said, she told me to try just packing up a few things and coming down to try face to face interviews. I am not sure if I could take such a risk to not get hired in the end and covering those costs would be difficult at this time.
I would be interested in working in China however, if you do have any contacts I would love to see where they can lead me. That would be great Kiran. Thank you. My email address is a_gft_frm_virgo@hotmail.com
Hope to hear from you soon,
Nicole

Hey Guys,
I don't know if anyone here could help me BUT i will give this another try. I have been trying to look for TESOL positions abroad ever since I have completed my certificate about two years ago. I have been having trouble finding anything because it seems that even though Global TESOL College has advertised on several occassions that teaching jobs are guarenteed with no bachlor degree necessary I have been seeing otherwise. It has been disappointing actually, I feel ripped off and cheated. So if anyone could help me who doesnt have a degree and has found jobs overseas, if you are out there, let me know what you did or who to contact that would be great. Thanks. Also I am a college graduate (business 2 year diploma) and currently completing my second college 2 year diploma. |

Thank you for that information Heidy and Jim.
Heidy you mentioned that not all countries care about the difference between degrees and diplomas. It seems like Taiwan is specific in regards to what level of education they are requiring their applicants to have. Would you happen to know which countries in Asia would not be so specific with degrees/diplomas? I want to go to Taiwan but if thats not an option then I should probably look into countries that would consider my education an asset. |

Hopefully someone could help me with this,
Most of the job postings on this site ask as a requirement to have a bachelor's degree or an Associates degree alongside a tesol/tesl certificate. I am not quite sure what an Associate degree is but when I did some research most definitions said an Associate degree is earned in a given field upon completion of a two-year program (15 credits per semester) at an accredited post-secondary institution. But the term 'Associate degree' is not used in Canada - instead the term Diploma is used after a two year program completion at a post-secondary institution. However under certain job requirements they state that diplomas are not recognized by The Bureau of Education unless it is the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree. A Bachelor's degree is earned after four years. Now, I have heard of being able to recieve diploma's after 8 months or 1 year of college. Associate degree's however are recieved after 2 years, not four years. I am asking because I want to teach English in Taiwan. I have an attended an accredited post-secondary institution for 2 years, full time and have earned 72 credits (18 credits per semester) and graduated with a 2 year diploma. Would that not be equivalent, if not the same as an Associates degree????? I have also earned an Advanced TESOL certificate in Teaching Adolecents English. Would someone be able to clarify this Associated degree/diploma dilemma for me? Thank you, Nicki |
