I am looking for a job but almost all require a degree! I have some university, but am wondering where I would have the best results to apply?
Thanks.

Don't let the fact that the job ads say that a degree is a must stop you from applying for the jobs. Most schools are simply trying to get degree holders if they can, but will settle for non degree holders if they must.
The exception to this is that some countries actually require it in their labour code that foreign workers have some form of university degree. You may want to check the embassy websites of countries you're interested in going to for more info. I think most embassies will have a page of basic information about working in their countries and what is required of foreign workers there. If you find that the embassy's does not clearly stipulate that a degree is required under labour code, then go ahead and apply for the jobs. You might be lucky. If you're looking for countries that don't actually require degrees to teach there, you might want to consider central Europe. I've been in the Czech Republic for four years and have never needed a degree to work here; I understand that Poland, Slovakia and Hungary are the same in that regard. There's enough of a demand for English teachers that they can't pick and choose so easily. Good luck. |

O.K. Jason you make good points and I'd see where you'd be angry if you were truly holding Global to the "guaranteed job" line. If I had one criticism of Global it would be their "guarantee" of a job, I think it raises a lot of false hope.
I didn't hold them to it myself as I knew it would be more than a year before I could pry myself away from my previous job and a few other commitments in Canada. I also didn't hold them to it because, and I don't mean to come off offensive to anyone here or the powers that be at Global, I was sceptical of their ability to actually deliver on that guarantee. Indeed I am sceptical of any agency or organization that "guarantees" jobs. How could it be done? How could they speak for potential employers who may have no connection to them? In my book, "guaranteed job" is an oxymoron. Unless the organization making the guarantee intends to hire you themselves, it can't work for sure. I wouldn't go so far as to call Global a scam, I find that my TESOL certificates I got from them do get respected when I present them. Good luck to you sorting the matter out with them. |

In Korea, China, Taiwan and Vietnam and Thailand, but ur best bet would be in China. The easiest countries to find work in are eastern european countries, but the pay is pretty low. Jobs teaching English overseas are plentiful for TEFL and TESOL qualified or without experience, teaching jobs can be found in a multitude of interesting and exotic locations.
Teaching English overseas is a worthwhile experience and a great way to meeting new people and gaining new knowledge of other cultures and languages. It is also a great way to see the world and meet other teachers from different countries while building teaching skills together sharing each others knowledge. TEFL jobs are available in just about every country worldwide. |

There are many, many jobs that DO NOT require a degree in over 64 countries, China, Portugal, Russia and Germany to name a few, it all depends on how honest you are being with yourself and how hard you are really trying.
Global Tesol College DOES give you a job guarantee because it is a No-Brainer for the College. They give you all the tools you require to obtain your goals "a job" and if you are incapable of doing it yourself for whatever reason like ( you're too busy complaining about it, instead of doing something about it) they will even assist you. You say Jeanne that you took your course in the Toronto office and that " no-one told you about it" when as you may remember, you had an entire day ( sunday) discussing your possibilities, not to mention all the information and strategies in you "information handbook" to reference. In addition to this you could, at any time contacted your instructor and the 2 amazing people running the office Jim and Anastasia to help you. It sounds to me Jeanne that your not really trying or don't really want to try for whatever unseen reason, but I highly doubt it has ANYTHING to do with your lack of a degree, perhaps it is YOU who feels inadequate without one, and that goes for you 2 other girls as well. Oh and Kevan, trying to "pitch" your "book" on this sight is in poor taste. Besides, have you not been employed now for the last 4 years because of the College and did YOU not get a job!? It is pretty sad to bite the hand that feeds you Kevan. I can say all of this because I don't have a degree. I found a job in the matter of DAYS after my course and I completed my course out of the Toronto Office as well Jeanne, but I applied myself, had a winning attitude and marketed myself. Look inside yourselves girls and find the "real" reasons why you don't want to commit to your future, and if that fails you always have that "Job Guarantee" to fall back on. Stacey |
