Applying for VISA

I am finding it difficult to obtain VISA information to work in Europe. Apparantly, I need the job first and then the employer has the burden of proof. Does anyone have advise on obtaining a work VISA for Europe (I am a Canadian citizen). I am looking for insider information, rather than a reference to a website. Thanks!
Hi, I just got back from Italy where I was teaching, I am canadian. What I found out, is that it is quite easy to get what you need to work there, i.e. "codice federale" which is a plastic card like our social security card, and with that you can work. How to get it, well you go to any office in Italy, and ask for it. Youu just say, no papers needed that you are born in one of the E.U, country, and you pick up a city. they will give you anumber on the spot and within 2 weeks you will receive the plastic card from Rome at your address in this case in Italy.
Where are you from Nicole, you can reach me for mre info at man.vic@hotmail.com
good luck

Are you by any chance trying to find work in the Czech Republic, Nicole?

What you describe sounds very much like one of their visa requirements. There is no universal European visa, all of the countries have their own requirements. Best is to visit the embassy website of the country you want to go to.

I've been in the Czech Republic since 2004 and the bureaucracy for non European Union citizens can be daunting to say the least and it changes frequently. I've heard its even more difficult in other European countries.
