Greetings all :)
Time 4 an update no? ;)
So here it is!
When landing Usualy you must obtain a residential permit with in 24 hrs BUT ur Agent may advise you to wait till you renew ur Visa so its done all at the same time. So if you are asked 2 1/2 months down the line WHY you did not obtain the residential permit you are to play Blonde and say you did not know :( and look sad and say its all in Chinese and you do not speak the language. Trust me it works!
Now to the matter of the Visa: You will come in with a Visa for 3 months then you and your agent will go to extend your Visa, the usual is 6 months and its 1360 Yuan and will take 15 working days to get ur passport back, please bring with you a passport size photo to give them, there are 3 formes to fill in and sign. When the 6 months are close to end you will need to leave china just go to Hong Kong for a day or 2 and enjoy then come back in and renew ur Visa for 6 more months, you wil need to take 2-3 days off work to do this so your agent wil help with that.
Your agent will cover all the Visa renewal fee's you do not pay a thing!
Now most important, you are NOT to say if the Police ask you why you are here that you are a Teacher you could end up in Jail! please trust me.
I was given this advise by the agent who did my Visa renewal today! You are to say you are here for Cultural exchange or your in town to learn about how things are run as in being your own boss because you want to open your own chain of stores NEVER say you are a teacher!
Please know where you leave as in your full address if you do ot know it save it in Chinese + English on your cell phone! and say you do not speak Chinese and do not know how to say it.
BE WARNED! They may come to bang on ur door at 12am or 5am to make sure you are where you said you would be as in live at the correct address or they might call you again be ignorant and only speak English! If they tell you come with me do not follow tell them you come with me! Do not use bad language you will be beaten first then you will get a nice bed for 24hrs in Jail! Please be carfull!!!!!!
This is not a joke guys & gals it is real in Beijing and in any other city in China so please please Watch your self
So please take care and be safe.
Most important do not forget to have fun :)
Muah!

Wow.
What a crazy life you are living in China. I have to note, you ARE working ILLEGALLY and you should be very careful! If the school is asking you to renew your own visa it means you do not have a work permit or a proper residence permit, you are NOT paying taxes (though the school may claim you are) so therefore you are committing a crime. The residence permit you are giving to the police now is NOT a permit, it is simply temporary registration of your address in China, it is not permission to work. Period. I have never lied to the police department nor have I needed to. A legal teaching position entails a residence permit and work permit. Anything else and you are in danger of being deported (and possibly fined) and the school being fined. Of course there are many schools that operate like that, and every year the big cities do round-ups of people just like you. You are no different than a Mexican without a green card working under the table in Texas. Whereas you are not doing anything bad or evil, you are also not acting within the laws of China. 2 years ago 80% of the teachers I know were deported, even those with families and what they thought were legit jobs. I would recommend instead of trying to hide from the police you instead start looking for a new job which can provide you with the legal status you need to become an actual teacher in the country as opposed to an unwitting criminal. I have been in China for 7 years and never had any problems with the police or any other authorities. In fact, if one follows the proper procedures you will find that the police department is very helpful to those legally in the country. The majority of people in China have a great deal of respect for foreign teachers who they feel are here to improve their lives and the lives of their children. You will even find that traveling within the country and especially across the border is MUCH faster and easier with a proper residence permit in your passport than a tourist visa. Of course the visa agent will tell you to lie, they stand to face no risk if you are busted and get paid either way. A proper school must and WILL pay for the visa for you, so that itself saves you not only potential disaster but also about 3000rmb a year. Any time someone tells you to lie to the police, in any country, even our own Canada, we should give our heads a shake and look elsewhere..... NOT worth it, really.... |

I also find it interesting by the way how you make VERY broad claims about beatings and poor conditions across ALL of China Linda. Have you lived anywhere other than Beijing? or is that based on things you have read online? Appears to me you live in Beijing and only Beijing. How can you say such things about "ANY" city in China? I know a couple dozen good friends now who love Beijing, half of whom have lived there for more than 10 years..
I have lived full time in China for 7 years and known LITERALLY hundreds of foreign teachers and travelers. 5am visits by police, beatings and things like that are NOT the norm here and I think it is wrong of you to post things like that which are simply not true. of course there are always exceptions, but those happen everywhere, even back home. Yes, you could be in big trouble for being belligerent to police here, but try that in Canada or the US and see what happens.... Youtube is FILLED with videos of stupid people doing exactly that, and they are beaten just as badly. I would suspect the local police would just have you deported because to actually beat you up would lead to an international incident and problems on a much bigger scale. Another point you should consider when posting about the horrors of life here, is the fact you are an illegal alien in the country if you are lying to the police in the first place. Of course you are at risk of poor treatment, in their eyes, you are a criminal. Think the cops in Texas are nice and friendly to illegal Mexicans? How about Arizona, where even looking Mexican can get you in trouble? If you act within the law, and go yourself, right after getting your visa, to register at the police station, without waiting for them to bang on your door, you will have no problems. If you take illegal contracts, LIE to the police and wait for them to come knocking, well, you bring such troubles on yourself, it is not the police, the city or the country that has failed you, you failed it. |
