I did not anticipate half of the things that I got out of the Global TESOL course in Toronto. Going into the program, I expected a dry, grammar filled and overall boring 5 days. What I got, was an experience that has changed my life. Jim, in short, is amazing. He is very knowledgeable, and pushes each and every person to be the best that they can be. He creates a positive learning environment, and equips you with the necessary confidence and skill set to travel aboard and be an “amazing teacher!” The main reason I chose Global TESOL over its competitors (specifically Oxford Seminars) is the support services they provide. Access to the job board is does not expire, and Jim, as well as head office, offer sound advice and assistance.
The mere thought of leaving the familiar behind and teaching abroad is both exciting and frightening. As was pointed out throughout the course, teaching is both an art and the science. The former being your style and personality, the latter, includes such things as lesson planning. Global TESOL has taught me the science, and has improved the ways that I will go about teaching (through observing my peers and the various styles presented by Jim). No course can possibly substitute the experience and practice that is attained from actually teaching. Global TESOL prepares you for this experience, and they prepare you well.
