about Peru

Has anyone traveled to Lima, Peru?? I'm wondering if it would be a memorable experience as a single woman.. and also, are the living conditions and salary substantial? Any insight is welcome and would be helpful!

I am presently in Chile - survived the earthquake - OHHHHH MY!!!! Teach part time at a Nursery School and wanting to go to Peru and explore ... but also not wantng to do it as a single woman!!
South America is not super safe for foreigners, every person I have met here, teachers and locals alike have ALL been robbed at one point.
Wages and living conditions are definitely NOT like North America - but I am sure you are aware of that.
